Standard 6 Professionalism

Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.

An example of demonstrating my passion and commitment to physical activity is that i help to coach a minor league baseball team. Our team is the Mud Kats. I love being around sports and enjoy helping people try to improve their performance in skills.

Standard 5 Impact on Student Learning

Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.

One of my strongest values is in respecting others. I feel that everyone should be respected equally and that no one is better than anyone else. I feel that this class in 255 was a special group. We all got along great and we were there to support one another when someone or someones needed something. Therefore communication is critcal. Students need to have a teacher who demonstrates standard 5 to the best of their ability. The teacher needs to help his or her students the best they can and to give them feedback as often as possible to help them. Through out this class we all learned how vital feedback is to a lesson.

Standard 4 Instructional Delivery and Management

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

I strongly agree with many other physical education teachers with the believe that skilss are major focus in the unit. I think that we need to captivate our students no matter what the skill level is though. We need to provide them with activites that are enjoyable. The same old jog around the gym and stretching just doesnt cut it anymore. We need to make our students want to come to class. An example personally for me would be when teaching my lab C. I had to teach speed skating. I was the fourth and final person to teach on the the selected day. By the time i was ready to run the show half the class had already zoned out. They were tired of drills. They wanted to leave for the most part. It would take something that was trully a riot to make them stay. I think that as Phys ed teachers we need to be able to adapt to the situations that we are presented with. I did so this year on the first day of classes. I did a few quick drills and then immediately got everyone into a modified game. I improvised on lab C by making the majority of my lesson time for the students to enjoy themselves and participate in a game.

Standard 3 Planning and implementation

Participates regularly in physical activity

The largest assignment of the year for me while in 255 was my lab D assignment. It completely aplies to this NASPE standard. I had to instruct a lesson to my peers that would promote regular physical activity. There is no question that videogames have recieved great attention as of late. Many of our youth today are speanding more time exercising their thunbs rather than their hearts. My lab D assignment was to teach DDR to my peers. It is a videogames which promotes activity. Many physical education classes around the would utilize DDR in their lesson plans and curriculum.

Standard 2 Skill and Fitness Based Competence

Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

While at Cortland i learned all types of information about ways to achieve sound health and nutrition. One way that we learned to help live long happy healthy lifes was to make fitness plans specific to ourselves. Understanding what a fitness plan can do for someone can help me to help other.

Standard 1 Motor Skills

Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

Scientific and Theoretical Knowledge: Physical education teacher candidates know and apply discipline-specific scientific and theoretical concepts critical to the development of physically educated individuals.
